A very big Welcome to Different Strokes (Portsmouth)

We are a group of 'younger' Stroke survivors and carers. We live locally in Portsmouth and in adjacent Boroughs such as Gosport, Fareham and Havant (However, our borders are not 'set in stone'). We are very happy to offer support to others who have experienced a stroke (including their families/carers). Those who do 'surf in'; are asked to pass on news of our activities to stroke survivors who do not have access to the internet!

We hope you can gain something from our own experiences and we love to meet new people and offer practical and emotional help wherever we can.
Our aim is for you to feel at home and among friends.

To discuss our activities, or even just for a chat, please phone

Di on 023 92 617 139 (If no response; Di may be at work so try again after 6pm) or Doug on 023 92 374 235 (If it doesn't go to ansaphone after 6 or 7 rings; it means Doug is at home but still trying to get to the phone - don't hang up!)

or simply go to our 'Contact Us' page where you will find the appropriate codified e-mail address.

On Saturday 1st May 2010 we had the privelege of having a Race Night to raise money for our Club, hosted by the Duke of Connaught Club (formerly the RBL Club) in Fareham. Their generosity helped us to raise almost £400. So Thank you once again, for your generosity and hospitality. Their own Members and Committee were all instrumental in the success of the evening.

And...

On Friday 18th December 2009 we had the great pleasure of enjoying our Annual Christmas Dinner at the Southsea Golf Club, only this time we included a Disco/Dance! It is understood that the Fifty Diners, (Survivors, Wives, Partners and Guests) thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Our thanks go to the excellent services provided by the Club bar staff, Condor Catering and the Dave Shirley Roadshow. We (the Committee) were so impressed that we have booked next years event at the same venue with the same DJ for Friday 10th December 2010. Get this date into your diaries NOW!! To see the 'photographic evidence' visit the 'Activities' section of this website and scroll right down to the bottom of the page!

We need to have as many of our Members as is possible to muster at the Lee-on-the-Solent Bowling Club, on Saturday 7th August 2010, as the Club have arranged a Presentation to us of a cheque related to moneies raised on our behalf on Saturday 17th July 2010, when they very kindly hosted a Fund-Raising day of bowls in which there were 28 teams (of 4 Players) taking part. An impressive gathering on a fine, sunny, blustery afternoon.

To get there on Saturday morning, please follow these instructions ...

At Fareham follow signs for Lee on Solent( Newgate Lane B3385 ) to Peel Common roundabout, take 2nd exit marked Lee on Solent  B3385; at junction with High Street (one junction before the seafront), turn left, then approx 1/4 mile, just past the old Royal British Legion club on right(now a play school); turn left into Salisbury Terrace opposite; in 20 yards ds turn left into an alley-way which runs adjacent to Club 1/2 way down there is a gate leading to the club house where passengers can be dropped off there are parking spaces along the perimeter fence but it may be occupied by members who arrived earlier.  At end of alley is Russell Street where cars may be parked; or turn left out of Russell Street where there should be parking spaces available any probs contact me, Bill Brown on 07944 066652. The Club Post Code is PO13 9DL and we will do our best to assist. Look forward to seeing you all on Saturday, Bill and Maureen Brown.

The club President Phil Sanders is the official responsible for charities; and the tournament from which we have benefitted was the COLIN FORD TOURNAMENT.

The total amount raised by the bowling club was, £1,400.00
